"It’s just not possible! A faux pas"

"Having seen the free-range pigeon in a puff pastry crop up a lot, this was the dish to take"

21 September, 2024

Sometimes you end up eating in places where the food is ok, but the atmosphere is off, and here was a clear example of that. The waiter’s jokes were not funny, especially when he was pretending there was gluten in a dish to make us laugh. And for somebody with an intolerance, that is not something to make fun of. What can we say, the French were never that funny… The night before we had a hell of a feast, so we decided to come here to calm down a bit with a one star and only a couple of courses. Getting straight to the point:

To start, the langoustine ravioli with shellfish bisque was well flavoured, the ravioli made to a good standard, there was not anything wrong with this dish.

The dill crab remoulade with lemon sauce, was presented nicely, and you could really taste the crab. It was fresh with other flavours coming through whereby the crab was still present and not lost. The radish on top sliced to the correct thickness and belonging on the plate.

Having seen the free-range pigeon in a puff pastry crop up a lot, this was the dish to take, Wellington style with salmis sauce. I was disappointed at the amount of sauce on the plate, it was non existent, so I had to ask for more. Without it this dish was incomplete. I enjoyed the pastry, and the pigeon cookery was perfect, there was a little salad on the top to cut through the richness. The dish was accomplished and well executed but you can’t serve this without a generous amount of sauce. It’s just not possible! A faux pas.

Always a favourite is the veal sweetbread, they were crispy and served with a yellow wine dressing. Sitting below were some perfectly prepared girolles. A simple bistro dish, delivered to an acceptable level.

No dessert tonight, as I’m still recovering from the night before! Overall, I didn’t like the service very much, the atmosphere was weird. The food was ok, but that is all, and I am not desperate to come back.

French bistro style is here, casual, unfussy, and relaxed. No need to turn up OTT. That is not very French anyway and we are in Paris after all. Black casuals will work very well for you here.
