This was our first ever visit to the beautiful Ermioni. It was also an opportunity to eat in a different taverna as an alternative location to Porto Heli. We pulled up to Spirandreas on our bikes, having done such an exhilarating ride, there is nothing better than discovering the nature of the Peloponnese and feeling at one with the landscape around you. When we got here, we deserved our lunch even more due to the calories burned and felt a real sense of achievement. I was so ready to eat! The restaurant is popular here and being open air, it means you can enjoy the views to the maximum. This restaurant has been around since the 1960’s and fresh fish is what they swear by- delivered daily, you can’t ask for anything more when it comes to this. In the times today, they did mention that the menu has been extended to offer a wider range of popular seafood dishes, but I did not see any asterisk stars next to the seafood items to declare them as frozen, so I hope that doesn’t change… Don’t go breaking my heart Spirandreas.
Let us talk about the food: The courgette fritters were a little wet in texture for my taste, but they deserve a chance. The tzatziki tasted as it should, with the aubergine dip alongside with some bread for dipping. I have an issue with the bread around these parts; because it is like this does not matter to anybody, and they will just buy whatever in and serve it regardless. An after thought, a snub to proper bread. More can be done! Please make your own bread or try not to get it from Drougas!! Not everything is always about cost… If you make a fantastic bread, then you can sell it for a price. The Octopus salad was fair, the octopus itself being tender which was the most important part.
I can tell that this is an ok restaurant, but I have a feeling we need to come back for a dinner to really see what Spirandreas is all about. The location is desirable, and half of the fun here is eating with those views, it is made for that too. La Reine Gourmande will be coming back to get the full effect. See you soon.
