"It all sounds tempting"

"The saganaki talagani, was a new try for me, this Greek cheese was interesting"

If you have watched The Walking Dead up until the point where ‘the hilltop’ is existing, Costa Navarino reminds me EXACTLY of this. It was literally the first thing I thought of when the security gates closed behind us, and we drove into the destination complex. You are protected from the rest of the world outside, in your exclusive bubble, playground. It is meant to be a high-end place and within this you have restaurants, five-star hotels, a spa, tennis courts, golf courses etc. I am not here to write about hotels or anything else but food for that matter, but it is to give you an idea of the scale and what is on offer here. I happened to be at Navarino Dunes, and we stopped for lunch at Souvlakerie, (One of their casual grill eateries on site.) This venue is outdoors with tables and chairs outside, and you can see the chefs preparing your meal in an open kitchen. Everything is on show.

At this point in the day, I was so hungry that I stopped talking! I just couldn’t speak, and I needed food desperately to bring myself back to life. Anybody else been in this situation? Can’t be just me surely. Anyway, if I was going to be able to function on the most basic level, I needed to eat right away. I looked at the menu, with all the energy I had left, and we ordered. Luckily, it all came out swiftly. Thank God. The saganaki talagani, was a new try for me, this Greek cheese was interesting, cooked on the grill and served with sweet olives on the top. It was excellent; I could have eaten another one. A small detail- I also appreciated the paper it sat upon, I liked the presentation. Pitta bread was a no brainer, we took some of that of course, to share.

The salad ingredients were vibrant and fresh, they clearly have some good products, and this is where you need to start before you decide to make any simple food. Without this, you will drown. You are not going to be able to go anywhere. For the main event, the pork, Greek, Iberico skewer, it came served on a board, with some fresh lemon on the side and some sauce for dipping. Served slightly pink in the middle, with just the right amount of grilling on the outside, it was not dry (phew). It was tasty and straightforward. It was a perfect choice to recharge the batteries. If I were ever here again, I would love to try most of what is on the menu. It all sounds tempting, using proper ingredients with no corners cut. I say, “Yes please.”

You are likely to come here and visit in the spring or summer, it is not unusual for the weather to be good, even in March! Be prepared for the sun if it shows, as it certainly was out today. Depending on how you interpret the heat, bring something to cover up, comfortable trousers and a top will be more than enough.
