There are so many conflicting opinions about this restaurant, some good, some not so good. I really did not know whether to visit and I hesitated back and forth, but finally making the decision to go I was not disappointed at all- the food was delicious. We started with a couple of the bites on the menu. We opted for- The sardine chip with horseradish, crème fraîche- Simple but effective and very moreish. We had to order another.
The dried porcini doughnuts, raclette were some of the best savoury doughnuts I had in ages. Such a generous bowl as well, I wanted to eat them all but that would just be greedy and overindulgent. I refrained from doing so.
The aged beef wonton with RT chilli crunch was punching in flavour and perfectly balanced, one was enough as it was a big size.
Then we moved onto the larger courses which were equally as delicious. The first being-little gems, red flame grape, candied walnut, verjus-green peppercorn vinaigrette. As always with salad it is hard to convince me to like any of them, but this was an accomplished one.
Next was an interesting combination of Périgord black truffle, pomegranate, and pasta. Ok… I hear you say. We did not dislike it but at the same time there was nothing memorable about it. The weakest link.
To end was a bowl of complete deliciousness- Hand torn dumplings, tomato braised duck, 5 spice, kumquat. The flavour was perfect with every element of the dish working in harmony with each other. The sauce had real depth and deepness of flavour. Nothing was over cooked or wrong in any way. I just wanted to keep putting my spoon in there. But as usual it was a gigantic portion, there was no way I could finish this wonderful dish, but I appreciated the balance of flavours and textures, it was really good.
You might be wondering where the dessert is, but I had no room left! Not a problem though as I left satisfied and content that we found an excellent dinner in San Francisco.
