The important thing about this place is the fact directly opposite there is a fishmonger connected. (Hi Alex and gang!) This is part of the restaurant, which guarantees that you can have fresh fish daily. The chef told me that they are the only ones offering this in the area, and the rest implement frozen product for cost purposes. This is a great shame… Fresh fish, something that Greece is known for is also ruined at the same time. I do not want to eat frozen products when I am sat in a seafood restaurant! And I am sure you do not want to either, am I right? We walked in for a late lunch, and I noticed that the service was not exactly warm or welcoming, maybe this is just their style? What the restaurant didn’t realise is that we came in to test them. It is something that my guest and I have called ‘squid game’ (Don’t worry, no relation to the program on Netflix). It is where we just order squid and compare from place to place. You might think, “oh that is too simple, it’s just squid grilled” I can assure you it isn’t easy to get absolutely perfect, and it looks like everyone is getting it wrong.
I am pleased to say that the chef here has nailed it, and for me it’s the best grilled squid we have found in Porto Heli and the surrounding areas close-by. The product is great, the taste is great, with not an ounce of chewiness and prepared carefully, this is clear to see. If you love octopus simply grilled, then here is another example of the kitchen knowing exactly what they are doing with it. Nobody has beaten this one so far, and if I come across anyone even close to it, I will write and let you know. But for now, this is the only place to take seriously, and if you are a chef, or a cook then this one will do nicely.

Getting to know a little bit about Chef Romario, I have the impression that he loves his sauces; the tzatziki is fresh with the correct ratio of yogurt to cucumber and seasoning. Depending on personal preference you might prefer a different texture on the cucumber, but this is the correct preparation. The Greek salad is fresh of course as well, you might think it is just a salad, but it is how you treat that salad and deliver it to the customer. You can tell a good one from an average one. A negative: The bread I am not crazy about at all, bread is life, and this one doesn’t deliver. I have a feeling that the bakery Drougas (down the road) supplies. (If I am wrong then do email and tell me, but the bread seems to be the same from place to place!) Chef, can you make some pitta bread?! In this area of Greece, I have discovered it is ignored or doesn’t even exist! and that makes me sad. I don’t see it anywhere in restaurants and it would enhance the lunch ten-fold. (Perfect for dipping in the tzatziki) Apart from that, you can rely on this place for the fresh seafood that you crave from Greece, cooked to a good standard.
