"Let your hair down and enjoy"

"Exactly what we needed tonight—to be off duty, for kindness and consideration"

The Hotel de Crillon has a very warm atmosphere as you enter, taking refuge from the Parisian attitude outside these walls, instantly transported into a place of cheer. Noticeable right away:
“Good evening sir, madam, let me escort you to our brasserie.”
“Why thank you, indeed, do show us the way.”

As we followed, we sensed an upscale approach and respect amongst the people and staff as we walked through the enfilade to get to our destination. Something so agreeable, in no way stiff or arrogant—if you cracked a smile on the way, it wouldn’t seem out of place. We were shown to the dining room:
“Would you like a seat at the bar, or would you prefer a table?”
“The bar looks fun, let’s go there.”
“Absolutely, please do take a seat.”

We perched onto the bar, moving a little to find a comfortable position. An intimate space where you can relax and take a load off. I always enjoy eating at the bar these days; most of the time I do not want white tablecloth service for every meal, where I have to be on my best behaviour. Picking up the wrong knife and fork can feel rebellious and refreshing sometimes! I’m not sure all the master butlers reading this would agree.

“Welcome!” said the bartender. “What would you like to drink?”
“I know it’s boring, but just a mocktail and a water tonight—we need a detox.”
“No problem at all, and do you have any allergies?”
“Gluten intolerance for my guest only.”
“Sure, I’ll be right with you.”

Exactly what we needed tonight—to be off duty, for kindness and consideration. (The Ritz wasn’t the right scenario for our current state.) Sophisticated music was playing at the right level in the background, soothing the mood into the night. So far it’s ticking boxes. But we all know what I am going to say next: “How about the food?”

Nonos spread

Well, it’s uncomplicated—bordering on French bistro classics. Take a piece of grilled fish or meat, some frites, and lightly steamed or boiled vegetables, and you’re good to go. (Again trying to bring the health factor.) I asked for them off menu. Don’t expect cookery to the stars; it was just ok, doing what it sets out to do, and that’s fine. What makes this is everything working combined: gracious service, ok food, all encased in a snug setting. Unwind, let your hair down and enjoy.

“Fulfilment lies in presence- Eat, experience, feel. Leaving the scoring, rating, and reviewing at the door.”

It’s the Hotel de Crillon, but this doesn’t mean you are forced to look chic 24/7. This is the beauty of this hotel, its a luxury you can be yourself in.
