Matu

Beverly Hills

"It was just ok, with no more to say"

"Not very memorable unfortunately"

2 February, 2024

It was a Friday night in Beverly Hills, we chose Matu as it was close to us, and we wanted to see how good the steak was here. Overall, it was average, I was not particularly excited by this place but at the same time it was not terrible either. We started with a Japanese Caesar, iceberg lettuce. This was tasty, and the texture was perfect. An interesting take on the Caesar salad.

For the steak, they say that they serve them warm red (red in colour and warm throughout). Unless otherwise noted they can cook their steaks a little more. When ours arrived, it did need more cooking, this spoiled an otherwise excellent product. I am not sure how the other cuts of beef on the menu would be, but the one we took needed more time on the grill for tenderness as most bites were rather chewy. All the beef served is grass-fed wagyu from First Light farms.

For sides we took the Maitake mushrooms, thyme, butter and Pomme puree with chives. It was not the best pomme puree I have ever eaten but the mushrooms were well prepared with good texture and flavour.

For dessert, I had Scott’s flourless chocolate cake, to be honest it was not very memorable unfortunately.

I do not feel compelled to write a lot about Matu as it did not really leave an impression, it was just ok, with no more to say. I could give it another shot but I will pass as there are lots of other restaurants to go and try instead.

Be as dressed up or dressed down as you prefer, this is Beverly Hills in the night, and anything goes.
