We decided to revisit Gwen after an excellent meal previously, it has one star and is one of the rare places that deserves it in LA. This was our view last time however, this time it did not hit us in the same positive way unfortunately. We took the exact same food as last year as we enjoyed it so much before. I am not sure if it was a bad night in the kitchen, but the standard appeared to have dropped quite significantly. The yellowtail crudo I felt neutral about (Nor good or bad) The steak for some reason did not give us the jaw dropping moment we remember so clearly. It was a completely different night. The steak looked tired and unappetising on the plate and tasted that way too. We added some extra truffle on the top and even that was not bringing it back to life. We clearly remembered how amazing the potatoes were on our last visit, and we ordered another bowl as we could not get enough, but this time they were shockingly bad. No crisp, no good real flavour, it was pointless serving them frankly speaking. Did the chef leave? We were disappointed and saddened by what we were tasting. This is a sophisticated, upmarket restaurant on Sunset Boulevard. The decor is inviting, it is elegant not stuffy. Dress up smart but with style. P.s It gets a bit cold, wear a jacket.
