I must admit this is not the type of restaurant I usually visit, but like a lot of people I love Asian flavours and food in this part of the world is exciting, even if it can be very spicy. This category of restaurant is more casual than I am used to, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to get completely ‘homemade’ here, but what drew me in was the vibrant Malaysian street food dishes that this establishment promised. Who doesn’t like the idea of that in London? This place has a homely, heartfelt, unpretentious feel with food articles all over the walls from various esteemed food critics, they are proud to show them off. Everybody appears to have had an excellent meal here; So, I was really looking forward to trying the food.

My first dish was the roti canai kari Ayam goreng banjir (what is that I hear you say) It is simply a flat bread with fried chicken and curry sauce. I was really impressed with the cookery of the chicken, incredibly, perfectly crisp on the outside and the chicken remained tender in the middle, served hot right away straight from the fryer. The flatbread was addictive and once you dip it in the curry sauce you can’t help yourself going back for more of it, even if the spiciness is killing you. Delicious and satisfying, a gutsy Malaysian treat.

Next the supreme chicken noodle soup- it arrives in a big ramen like bowl, with plenty of everything (chicken, prawns, bean sprout, tofu, and chives) The broth was clear and cleansing, flavourful and topped with coriander and chilli. If you are a pho fanatic, you would be happy with this.

The rest of the menu looked inviting with a lot of Malaysian street food dishes I haven’t tried before, which would be a good excuse to come back to try them. I am all for another lunch.

Bayswater area is not the area to play ‘dress up’ Keep it on the down low and wear something discreet. There are a lot of fiery colourful sauces, big bowls of soup, its going get potentially hectic in there, don’t wear your best, it’s a super super casual place.
