What do you do when you have been to a party, it is late, and you spent all your time drinking and talking but not eating? You must quickly find somewhere before your hunger gets out of control and you can no longer eat at all due to immense belly pain (Just me then) Of course we got in a cab to Duck and Waffle. It was the only thing to do!
The concept of this place is successful, an open plan kitchen so you can see the chefs cooking, delivering food to hungry people 24 hours a day. Now would I come at normal hours for this? No probably not. But yes, I would come here at 1.30am in the morning. You also have a wonderful view on top of the 40th floor with floor to ceiling windows. It was extremely cold in parts, so the staff recommended us where the best place was to sit.
I was surprised actually; the food was not bad at all for this time, it certainly delivered what it needed to do, and the execution was sufficient. Another impressive thing is that in the Bites menu, mostly all of them were gluten free so my guest was happy.
Bites- Cheesy polenta croquetas: Deliciously crisp sitting on black truffle mayo, The BBQ- spiced crispy pig ears arrived in a bag sealed, giving much relief from our hunger. The balance of spice was good also giving the right amount of crispy.
Duck barbacoa tacos, avocado, coriander, lime, salsa taquero: The taco did its job, filling the hole of hunger. This food is perfect for the late night/early morning.
Pork and apple corn dog, chipotle mayo. It isn’t fancy at all, but our bodies were craving this yummy deep fried sinful morsel in front of us. We are eating to fill the belly here, not for outstanding cuisine.
Next, I tried the signature Duck and Waffle. A guilty pleasure I must admit. Crispy leg confit which was fried to perfection and piping hot, fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup. You can’t really fault a lot of the cooking, it was weirdly delicious with the sweet, salty combination. The chips were crunchy, totally acceptable. To get this standard of food so late is very ok.
If you find yourself completely stuck with nowhere to eat after a club or party head over here. You will go home happy rather than grumpy! It is uncomplicated, delivers what you need and will save your night.
