Burger & Beyond

London

"They are not looking like the epitome of health, but occasionally having one wouldn’t hurt"

"An add on to a night out"

Having just enjoyed a musical in the west end close by, a perfect finisher would be to take a tasty burger, no frills or fancy, just something satisfying and that fits the bill. To say that Burger And beyond are ‘London’s best burgers’ is a confident statement, I wouldn’t go that far… I thought this was more of a convenience seeing it was close by and the reason we came firstly. The Soho outpost has a basement level and there is a lot of space surprisingly, we had a large, fun corner table for all of us.

Yes, they do offer gluten free burgers with their buns, so nobody is feeling left out having to wrap lettuce around the patty. (This is annoying and boring) We took a bacon butty burger which was the gluten free one, the bougie burger and a plain cheeseburger. On the side obviously there were chips and their truffle tots. The burgers themselves are the kind you crave after a big night out with a stinking hangover, they make you feel instantly better afterwards whilst telling yourself that’s what your body needed. They are not looking like the epitome of health, but occasionally having one wouldn’t hurt. They are the unattractive, sloppy kind of burgers that are a guilty pleasure, American inspired. Some of them look like they would cause a heart attack, but to be fair the flavours were good and the burger size being not too out of this world.

My bougie burger consisted of their signature dry aged beef patty, double American cheese, steak sauce 2.0, marrownaise, and beef fat onions. It is a heavy one, it’s not supposed to be light! I couldn’t eat this every day, but of course why would you? The ideas were great on this, the patty itself was fine, but I don’t remember it as the best burger I ever ate. (I know I am a tough critic)

The American style truffle tots, now these I did really like, topped with truffle aioli, parmesan, and sage. My hand kept going into the pot far too often, I was addicted to these. I didn’t leave any for anyone else. Opps. Let’s order another then… The chips are what you would expect, crispy, served hot, perfectly seasoned, all good.

I see this place as an add on to a night out, not somewhere to come especially for burgers. Nothing was awful or tasting bad, I just wouldn’t go out of my way to visit. If I were in the area though and it was post theatre or late-night eating that I needed, then that would be a different story.

Save some serious room for the food that you are about to devour. Here you are in Soho, anything goes but don’t come in anything even the slightest bit uncomfortable. A military style smart/casual jacket, stylish sunglasses and a basic black trouser (With a stretch waistband) Can see you right through to the late evening.
