Kaiki Pool And Snack Bar

Hapimag, Porto Heli

"The portion size was gigantic!"

"So far in Porto Heli this has been one of my better lunches"

I heard from a friend in the area that a good souvlaki to try at Easter is here at the Kaiki Pool and Snack Bar, in the Hapimag Hotel. I always take note when a new recommendation comes my way: Sometimes it is a clever idea to take it, but other times I have sat down and within the first two minutes thought “Why the hell have you suggested this place?”And by then in true British style, you cannot possibly get up and leave (This would be rude because the owner has already started to talk to you) Anyway, after various disappointments due to local recommendations that I do not agree with, I vowed to make my own judgement and decide for myself instead. (Doing my due diligence and research) Then if something does go wrong, it is my fault and mine alone.

Here, however was a good day, I stopped by for lunch after a super long walk. I was absolutely starving. The hotel is in a nice area of Porto Heli, and the bar/restaurant is spacious overlooking their pool. Suitable for a short or long lunch. There is an open kitchen where you can see everything going on, and it is a clean and welcoming space. My guest ordered a salad, and I ordered the pork souvlaki, (It just had to be this). But my god the portion size was gigantic! I could have easily shared this with another person. Do people here really eat this to themselves? Not me. I have said this before, and I will say it again; the food portion sizes here are off the charts! Don’t order too much, start small and if you are still hungry afterwards you can always order more. This is your best bet.

The pork itself was juicy and not dry at all, cooked leaving the right amount of char from the grill. The chips crispy and everything served hot. There was some salad on the side which was fresh, accompanied by a yogurt sauce and some pitta bread. I cannot tell you if the pitta bread was homemade- I had a feeling it wasn’t but the plate in its entirety worked well. After my mammoth walk, this really hit the spot for me. My guest’s salad was also fresh and tasted acceptable, no problems there. So, overall, the food we had here was very satisfactory. Would I come back for another lunch? Yes indeed. So far in Porto Heli this has been one of my better lunches.

You can eat in your pool attire, with a cover up, exactly as you are, or opt for a casual short and t shirt. Porto Heli is an extremely casual and understated place; this is not the jet set in Monaco. Put your designer gear away, nobody cares!
