Oh, I just love Davittorio… It is up there at the very top. They are very clever; they just know how to balance the right amount of theatre to deliver you a show stopping performance but also combining gastronomy at the finest level. Eating here is a special event, the drive from Milan is more than worth it.
On this occasion we knew what we were coming for… Their truffle menu…. And my god it was the truffle menu of all truffle menus, it absolutely blew me away. I can say that this was the best one I have had so far. There was no menu, everything was a surprise from the chef, and I trusted the kitchen wholeheartedly with this.
We started with a couple of usual Davittorio classics before we began with the truffle dishes, we were well and truly, elegantly fed. This restaurant knows perfectly well how to use white truffle, they incorporated playful touches within some of the dishes and it brought us immense joy. Let us not forget the cookery and the execution though, being absolutely flawless. What I really liked was the simplicity but the impact they delivered with this; every plate of food was a triumph. An important detail to mention is this: We were given a lot of truffle, and this is where a truffle menu is more than worth it
Some highlights: The truffle teacup with the truffle croissant made me grin from ear to ear, and the crepe shaved with an outrageous amount of truffle was knock-out.
I became very full halfway in, and I had to stop to breathe for a moment, the food is generous in size, but you can forgive it every time because this restaurant is the best of the best. Unfortunately, this meant that when it came to the most spectacular course on the menu (The king crab) I could not take one bite! I was gutted!
The cheese trolley is a real sight, it never fails to impress. The white truffle kept on coming, with the chef melting some of the cheese off menu and topping this with more truffle! We were really spoilt.
The dessert at Davittorio is absolute quality, we were served one dessert with white truffle and then the usual classics followed. The pastry chef piped as many Cannoli as I wanted, then what followed was their signature Italian pannetone with different accompaniments. (Once you eat this one there is no going back to anything else, believe me).
The petit fours are always served on a charming ferris wheel, it takes you back to your childhood with them all sitting on candy floss. A comforting end to the dinner.
It was getting late, but it did not stop there. (We are always the last ones in the restaurant!) but we were still taken care of with a fresh mint tea. I just love to spend hours in here, slowing down enjoying the show, I am not very English anymore it seems… I really do not need to tell you that this is 3- star, they are masters of their craft here and the fact it is still family run, makes a massive difference. Everybody brings warmth, top-notch hospitality and they care which you rarely see anymore at this standard.
A special mention to Alessandro, he is a remarkable character, professional, generous, and sincere but with a fun streak. He steered the ship and ensured our night was a magical one as usual! Thank you.
