"Play on the Greek grill side"

"My guests agreed as they chomped down theirs. Suddenly our table went completely silent. "

Two grill houses sit opposite each other in the same area—so which do you choose? I wandered over to Steaky Grill House, but something in my gut told me to walk away. So, I turned back and walked up to Gyronostimies. A young man with great enthusiasm called me over: “We are a family‑run business. Come and see the kitchen—we make everything fresh!” How could I refuse his invitation? And he said it so nicely, too.

I was shown to the back, where two ladies were preparing and cooking all the food. That was enough for me to sit down and say yes. My guests, however, were yet to be convinced—they preferred the other place! I can tell you now that I made the right decision, because a few months later I visited Steaky Grill House and was unfortunately poisoned. The gut feeling never lies…

Our host was correct: everything here was freshly made and, frankly speaking, delicious. But do choose the right thing—that is, souvlaki or anything in a pitta bread. Play on the Greek grill side; this is their golden ticket. I have eaten a lot of gyros in Greece, and this one really stood out: super‑tender strands of pork, encased in a warm, soft pitta; fresh, crisp red onion to cut through the richness; a couple of juicy tomatoes; and “fried potatoes” tucked inside for a little contrast and extra carbs. It was top‑notch. My guests agreed as they chomped down theirs. Suddenly our table went completely silent. “That shut us all up,” one of them said.

Be aware of the portion sizes here—they are generous. Depending on your appetite, one serving is enough for two people, at least for me. But I suppose this is better than not having enough! If you don’t manage to finish it, take it with you. You’ll be thankful later. Don’t let good food like this go to waste.

Spetses is a difficult island when it comes to guaranteeing freshness and quality, but I’m trying my hardest to find it. Keep this place in your back pocket, and when you want a good gyros, head on over here. One excellent place is better than several failed ones.

“Fulfilment lies in presence- Eat, experience, feel. Leaving the scoring, rating, and reviewing at the door.”

It’s hot. Shorts, a T shirt, and walking shoes are all you need at this very casual restaurant.
