Where do I start with this place… How to waste your night with a mediocre rip off experience, you can take a masterclass here on that. Quadri sells itself with their glorious venetian decor, the dining room being very grand with views overlooking St Marcs square. That’s about all this restaurant has to offer, the food being a serious after thought. This night was an expensive mistake, seeing that it had one star I wasn’t really prepared for how bad the food was going to be.
Let’s be very clear, this place is a super tourist trap. If you know anything about cookery, you will know what’s good for you and avoid it like the plague. Deciding to choose the truffle menu is where the expense came from mostly, but normally when you choose a menu like this in a place that is good you don’t question the cost. You are buying truffle, obviously the price will be high, but here the price wasn’t justified whatsoever.
Where was the truffle? You can’t sell a truffle tasting menu without a decent amount of it, there was hardly any throughout the dishes… The menu just felt disjointed with the flavour combinations the chef chose to use with it. This is white truffle, it needs to breath, needs to sing, not to be destroyed by some inappropriate flavours that don’t compliment it. For example, serving a pumpkin risotto topped with white truffle is utter madness, what a waste of such a top product. I don’t know what the chef was thinking… For the diner, having to pay a high price for this made my stomach turn, it didn’t sit well with me at all.
The whole menu was low level, uninspired and lacking real culinary skill. Michelin need to revisit this place, as it does not deserve any stars. The desserts were not really any better, each topped with a very tiny amount of truffle. This was perfectly fine for the chef it seems, not for us though. It’s criminal to charge what they did for this entire dinner and to make matters worse, they lost our umbrella at the end of the night. We were left so unsatisfied that we had to arrange food when we got back, or it would have been a restless night. I will let the photos do all the talking… Nothing more for me to say.
