The Dolli Take 2

Athens

"I love their strapatsada eggs"

"The selection of tea is good, and the orange juice makes you wonder what rubbish you are forced to endure in England"

Our second visit and a welcomed return to The Dolli in Athens. For dinner, the grouper is here to stay as the ‘fish of the day’ once more. For the start we ordered their mushroom appetiser which was a sneaky one- Here was me thinking it would be light, but it was far from it, nevertheless it was yummy. (Yes, that this is the word I must use to describe it) The welcome from the chef was the same as before and we ordered a side salad to go alongside the fish, which I have found is a solid choice on this menu. I still go back to two particularly important draws to this place, the restaurant itself and the views. They really do offer you that something extra, you cannot be bored of staring at the Acropolis! They had the fire pits lit up outside, with the opportunity to sit on the terrace and eat, if you like. For Athens, this really cannot be beaten. The view draws you in, and it is hard to break away.

I didn’t mention the breakfast here yet, I love their strapatsada eggs, with their small, set curds mixed with tomato, herbs and feta flaked all the way through. The use of the dried oregano is mandatory here. You also have small toasts on the side to dip, but the fresh tomatoes were not needed. This Greek dish is delicious (I enjoy making this at home) and their version at The Dolli is a super choice on their breakfast menu. I found myself ordering it every morning as my first preference. For the rest of the breakfast, as standard, you are served a choice of cold cuts, cheese, and smoked salmon, all presented on a 3-tier stand, this comes to your table without you even having to ask, along with breads and condiments. The selection of tea is good, and the orange juice makes you wonder what rubbish you are forced to endure in England. The juice is sweet, fresh, and smooth, which easily leaves you wanting more as you gulp down your last drop. The breakfast buffet offers far more and all freshly made. (Still small, so you are guaranteed quality.)

Their meze is a wise choice too, (This is only available at lunch) with its super fresh sea bass tartare, guacamole with nachos, and pitta bread on the side. The kitchen even made us a gluten free cake to end with some tea. The food is consistent which is good news! After our revisit, we can safely say that the food standard hasn’t changed all that much and let’s hope it continues to be solid!
