Outlaw’s Guest House is quite new to the area opening in 2022, finally there were rooms to stay in to coincide with Nathan’s restaurants, a perfect addition and what we had all been waiting for. It always bugs me when you stay in a guest house and the breakfast is rubbish with no thought behind it, and here was not the case, with Nathan and his team in charge, I was sure we were going to have a good one. We started the morning off exactly right here preparing ourselves carefully for an exceptionally long walk ahead. It turned out to be 5.5 hours in the end! We sat in a lovely table by the window with the best view looking out onto Port Isaac whilst eating our breakfast.

There is a small selection of delights from the buffet such as fresh breakfast bakes each morning, jams, and marmalade, granola, poached fruit, yogurt and of course not forgetting your usual white or wholemeal toast with salted Cornish butter. For your drinks expect fresh orange juice, quality teas and apple juice from Haywood Farm.

Aside from these, the cooked breakfast options were all so very tempting… I wanted to stuff my face with the full Cornish breakfast (I am sure it would have been an English breakfast to remember) but I went down the healthy path of smoked Bocastle trout, scrambled eggs, and herbs. This trout had a deep, complex smokiness and cut at exactly the right thickness, pleasing to eat for the palate. My eggs were creamy, the curds at the right size and perfumed wonderfully with the herbs, well seasoned. Of course, they were cooked perfectly if Nathan had anything to do with it! I piled everything onto wholemeal toast filling myself up for the day. To note as well, making anything gluten free here is no issue at all, they are very used to catering for this intolerance. Their care and attention didn’t go unnoticed.

5.5 hours later we return to the guest house, having done a marathon walk. We were hungry. “Would you like some afternoon tea?” We were asked. My eyes lit up; it was just what we needed after such a day, and they had already made a gluten free version in advance for my guest. Homemade scones and what looked like a homemade ‘jammy dodger’ with curd inside were brought to us as we let out a sigh, finally sitting down outside, our legs about to drop off! Cornish clotted cream and an exquisite jam came on the side to build our scone upon, accompanied by a hot quality tea. This was necessary because we skipped lunch. This is a great idea for the guest house, it ought to stay.

It is obvious, the food is good here and it drives the guest house forward, this is not just a place to stay but a place to eat well too. I am not even surprised, because I knew it would be. This is exactly what Port Isaac needs and has; I hope it stands for many years to come. Thank you again everybody for a fantastic stay.
