Well, we know The Dolli quite well by now! But the menu today is something different for me to write about. It is bank holiday in Greece, and all over Athens there will be special curated dishes and menus. Normally served during the lunchtime, but the hotel kindly offered to make us the same for the dinner, so we didn’t miss out. This menu consists of fish roe salad, black beans, fried calamari (One of my favourites) Grilled octopus and more, being very seafood focused. The fried calamari had to be one of my choices, the batter that surrounded the calamari was crisp, there wasn’t too much of it. The seafood was slightly tough but still edible. Seeing dolmadakia and courgette blossoms stand out; we just had to take this. (Greece in a nutshell) They were well wrapped, one with vine leaves. I wish that we could see this more at The Dolli! Give us a real taste of your wonderful country. The fish balls arrived with fennel cream; black garlic and I ate all five of them, the herbs stood out in these. On the Octopus, the larger parts were tougher than the smaller pieces, which I was not expecting. Despite this, it was great to see some new Greek focused choices.
Overall, this then made me think about Greek food, it would make sense to include even more of Greece in their daily menu, because If I saw these on a normal day, as a customer, I would be happy to order authentic dishes such as these. Please do put the octopus on the menu and add in a top-notch souvlaki, then everyone will be smiling. I know in a hotel it is important to cater to different tastes and cultures, but for me when I come to Greece or Athens, I prefer to eat local things. It can teach you a lot about a place and educate you into learning about a country’s culture too, and that is a beautiful thing.
