Ermioni—what a beautiful place this is. Wherever you turn, there is a little nook or cranny to discover, each offering sublime views. As we walked, I used my common sense to choose our lunch. I noticed a place with huge octopus hanging outside, drying in the sun. It belonged to Kavos Taverna. The setting is unique: tables are placed all along the edge, so you can really take in the scenery while sitting amidst nature as you eat. This is incredibly enticing and might be the main reason to dine here, but let us not forget about the food—it must not get lost in such an impressive space.
Thankfully, it didn’t. Had it done so, I might not have the confidence to take another chance on a restaurant with exquisite views. It would have left me saddened and disappointed, ready to give up. The colour blue surrounds you at Kavos Taverna: the blueness of the sea, blue chairs, and tables, and of course, the sky. With the sun shining down on you, your mood is lifted and everything just feels glorious. The food consists of well-rounded Greek classics: tzatziki, courgette fritters, fresh salads, anchovies, and ‘fried potatoes’. The octopus was not hanging upside down for nothing—the pieces were chopped into bite-sized chunks, pleasantly charred on the outside and not tough in the middle, which is the most important thing with octopus. (Once it is overcooked, there is no saving it.)

The best thing to do here is gather your family and friends and share the dishes around the table. Sharing is caring! What you do not want to do is order your own dish and sit there eating just one thing, ready to split your part of the bill. This is not the way to do mezedes, and it looks miserly. Make a spread for everyone to dive into, so you can sample different dishes—not only is this more fun, but it also keeps things interesting as you pass the plates around, giving everyone variety.

When you are full and can eat no more, you can simply sit there, completely content, admiring the view. Honestly, you could stay for hours on end, staring out into the distance; you may never want to leave your chair! This view is one of the nicest I have experienced on a perfect summer afternoon in August in Greece, and the food is not a let-down.
